The pound against the US dollar traded around 1.3465 on Friday (August 29). The pair fell after three consecutive days of rising. The US dollar index strengthened slightly before the United States announced the July Personal Consumption Expenditure Price Index (PCE) data, reaching around 97.90.
Economists expect the core PCE rate, the Fed’s preferred inflation indicator, to accelerate from 2.8% in June to 2.9%, and the monthly rate is expected to grow steadily by 0.3%.
It should be noted that PCE inflation data is still an important driving factor affecting the prospects of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. But the impact this time may be limited as interest rate setting members are increasingly concerned about the risk of worsening labor markets - concerns have been raised after a sharp downward revision of non-farm employment data in May and June.
